About this directory
Sources & methods
Public records, clear attribution, and visible limits on what we know.
What is covered
Browse all jurisdictions represented in the source records: the 50 states, District of Columbia, and five territories. The six source directories cover governors, lieutenant governors and related officials, attorneys general, secretaries of state and related officials, U.S. senators, and voting U.S. representatives. Availability differs by jurisdiction. It does not cover all elected offices: state legislators, local officials, and other statewide offices are outside this directory.
Titles and selection methods follow each source. A listing in a public-official directory does not by itself mean an official was elected.
Where the records come from
- National Governors Association
- National Lieutenant Governors Association
- National Association of Attorneys General
- National Association of Secretaries of State
- Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives and the House directory
- U.S. Senate
- Biographical Directory of the United States Congress
The House dataset excludes delegates and the resident commissioner; no congressional listings are generated for territories or the District of Columbia. Missing coverage does not mean an office is vacant. Each profile links to its sources. Contact details may refer to an office, a website team, or a general contact page rather than a personal inbox. Profiles link to source biographies; attributed summaries are shown when available.
Dates and freshness
“Source observed” records when the source was retrieved by the data pipeline. It is not a service-start date or a claim that the record was independently verified today. Publication dates and committee observation dates may differ.
Where a source supplies no observation date, we say so. Rebuilding this website does not change source dates. Consult the official office website for current details.
Missing fields, vacancies, and disagreements
Missing fields are labeled “Not supplied by this source.” They are not filled by inference. A missing record is not treated as a vacancy. Explicit vacancies remain office listings without a person profile.
Overlapping directories are kept as separate source listings until reconciled, with comparison links on the jurisdiction, directory, and profile pages. Conflicting names or status require review. Profiles in overlapping groups are excluded from search indexing and the sitemap pending reconciliation. We do not infer committee leadership from rank or generate a portrait when no usable local image is available.
Using this directory
Choose a state or territory and browse by source directory, then open a profile for contact and service details. Name, party, and district filters narrow the office lists when JavaScript is available; the complete lists and profile links also work without it.
For address-based congressional district lookup, use the official House finder. MyTimeToVote does not collect your address in this directory.
